This Psalm is attributed to David at the time he was fleeing from his son Absalom's rebellion against him. It is a prayer supposedly offered in the morning as a prayer of trust in the Lord. In this post, I will reflect on it and offer my own prayer of trust. I invite you to do the same.

“O LORD, how my adversaries have increased! Many are rising up against me. Many are saying of my soul, "There is no deliverance for him in God." Selah.

But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head. I was crying to the LORD with my voice, And He answered me from His holy mountain. Selah.

I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustains me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me round about.

Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God! For You have smitten all my enemies on the cheek; You have shattered the teeth of the wicked.

Salvation belongs to the LORD; Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah.”

Psalms 3:1-8

O Lord, evil seems to abound everywhere around me. Stresses of life often overwhelm me. People question your "inaction" but I know You are alive and well and at work!

You, O God, protect me when I cannot protect myself. You, O God, truly are my glory and the One who strengthens my knees and causes me to stand upright when all I want to do is crumple over. Thank You for hearing my prayers for deliverance.

I go to sleep each night trusting in You. I wake up each morning trusting in You. Fear will not swallow me up because You are greater than all my fears and all my enemies.

When I'm overwhelmed and burdened wth grief and anxiety, You burst in and wrap me in Your embrace and strike down my enemies.

Salvation belongs to You and You alone my King, my Rock, my Redeemer! Please continue to bless me and all those who love You with a pure heart.

Amen
